Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan enforces rolling blackouts to all customers spread across two neighboring provinces.


General Manager of state owned electricity company PT PLN Region South and Central Kalimantan Purnomo in Banjarbaru on Friday said the blackout imposed gradually since 31 January to June 2016.

"The first phase is repairment of power plant unit 3 Asam-Asam, so that a rotating blackouts is scheduled from January 31 to February 10," he said.

He said the repairment of the Asam-Asam power plant unit 3 causes Barito Electrical Systems experiencing power shortages by 65 mega watt (MW) and causes outage.

"The maintenance of power plant unit 3 is a continuation of maintenance processes carried out in November 2015 to keep the engine primed," he said.

After unit 3 repair finishes then continued withmaintenance of Excess Power plant (steam-fueled power plant) MSW purchased by PLN from a mining company in South Kalimantan. The second stage makes PLN power loss by 40 MW.

Then it continued with a third phase with maintenance of unit 4 Asam-Asam power plant and causes PLN to lose 65 MW power.

"The last stage will be the unit 1 plant maintenance with a 65 MW power and the entire process lasted until June 2016," he said.

According to him, the maintenance is done against the PLN power plants is a routine activity aimed at maintaining the reliability and minimize the damage.

"Maintenance at this time can not be postponed due to engine operating hours have passed and we hope people of South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan can understand," he said.

He urged customers to save power consumption so that it can reduce the outage performed due to plant maintenance.

"The number of PLN customers reached 1.4 million, if each saves electricity by 50 watts, the total power of 70 MW of electricity saved can reduce outages," he said.
