Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - As many as 50 banks of garbage in the city of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, was declared "defunct" or have been long not operated.

Head of the Banjarmasin Environment Agency (BLHD) Hamdi at City Hall Tuesday expressed his regret that so many waste banks in this area no longer in operation.

"Of the 125 garbage banks in our region is very unfortunate as many as 50 waste banks have stopped operating. It became our common concern and seek them to be managed again by community," he said.

He said, BLHD have held meeting with bank garbage managers in te city to hear their complaints and difficulties over the years.

"Indeed we have heard, there are some complaints submitted, of which related to storage room for recycling bins, other than that is transport equipment issue," he said.

Responding to these complaints, Hamdi said, BLHD is willing to help by providing transportation and storage bins in the parent bank, which is located near the North Banjarmasin Sub-district office, Jalan HKSN.

"In fact we will seek to marketing economic valued garbage they collected. If needed to Java, to Surabaya," he explained.

According to him, the spirit of community in shaping the waste bank as an effort to cope with the large volume of garbage in this area should be given the full support from the local government.
