Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif invites Indonesia's young generation to actively participate in developing clean energy in order to reduce carbon emissions and increase the energy mix in Indonesia.

"We cannot harvest if we do not plant and fertilize the land. For this reason, we urge our young generation to support our program towards clean energy development, especially for our country," Tasrif noted at the G20 Youth Forum Energy Transitions monitored here Friday.

Tasrif later highlighted that Indonesia had abundant natural resources, with its fossil energy to various forms of new and renewable energy sources. He invited the younger generation to develop technology that can make energy resources efficient and economical.

"The younger generation must be able to do creative jobs related to innovations. We hope they would make great contributions in the future," Tasrif noted.

Currently, Indonesia continues to strive to optimize various local products to meet domestic needs and stop dependence on imported products.

The ESDM minister explained that the state budget, regional budget, and budget for state-owned enterprises (SOEs) had almost reached Rp1,500 trillion. However, 90 percent of Indonesia's components of goods came from abroad.

Hence, the government has targeted the percentage of imported components to reach 40 percent only in an effort to support economic growth of approximately 1.9 percent.

"Now, Indonesia has the lowest inflation rate, which is ideal as compared to other countries, but we must be vigilant. Hence, the potentials in this country must be optimized," he emphasized.

Tasrif also motivates members of the younger generation to make a real contribution to society through their works and thoughts.

"Our great natural resources are waiting to be produced. The younger generation must be able to optimize its value to bring impact to our country," he said.
