Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Director of PDAM Bandarmasih Muslih said heavy rains that occurred yesterday has not reduced the salinity of the Martapura river water in Banjarmasin.

"Once rain yesterday (Thursday, 29/10) has not been a big influence. Levels of salinity in Martapura river remain above threshold," he said here on Friday.

According to him, taps still difficult to process Martapura river water into clean water as salty levels above 2.500 milligrams per liter, so it still can not normalize the distribution to the customer.

"Except if rain a week routinely and it happened in upstream areas, the effect is very big to change of river water salinity levels and retrieval of raw water can be carried out in large-scale," he explained.

According to Muslih, if rain occurs only occasionally, the upstream water can not push the incoming sea water which is too large to Martapura River.

"If the Martapura river water in Banjarmasin can not be processed, thus making raw water intake in Sungai Bilu can not be operated again," he said.

Muslih expects customers can still be patient while keep praying that the rain continues until clean water crisis in the region can be resolved as soon as possible and brings welfare.
