The Tapin District Library and Archive Agency routinely enters the Class IIB Rantau Detention House (Rantau Rutan) to boost reading interest among detainees (inmates).
Tapin librarian Estiaten Johan said the book circulation program with the Rutan Rantau has been going since 2019.
"Every three or six months the books in Rutan Rantau library are rotated," he said on Monday, when he handed the book to the detention house.
The scheduled book exchange is aimed to open up knowledge and insight of the inmates and increase the collection of books at the Rantau detention.
"There are 150 books in each circulation with various types, such as religious books, skill, history, and others," he said.
The books were obtained from Harapan Cerdas Public Library owned by the district government.
Head of the detention house Andi Hasyim acknowledged that since the program was introduced the inmates's interest in reading has increased.
"On average there are 40 visits every day. The library schedule is Friday and Saturday. It will be scheduled every working day later," said the Rutan Rantau head who has been in office since the end of 2020.
Of forty visits in average, it was not seldom that the inmates borrowed the books to take them to their cell.
"Now there are 323 fostered residents (detainees) living here," he said.
Andi hopes good cooperation with the Tapin Library and Archive Agency to last long and beneficial to the fostered residents.
