Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Acting Governor of South Kalimantan Tarmizi Abdul Karim said the management is currently being prepared for drainage built in a peatland area in order to prevent fires.


"Management of drainage is the right step to tackle the fire, especially in peatlands," said Tarmizi Abdul Karim after the 70th anniversary of TNI in Banjarbaru Monday.

He explained that the management of drainage in the form of the construction of canals and waterways around the area of ​​peat, so that the water can be used in case of fires.

Tarmizi said so far the fire fighting efforts, particularly in the peatlands, constrained by the availability of water around the site.

"Hotspots emerged in peatlands more and more, because they were not quickly extinguished due to lack of water resources so that water sources are prepared for future," he said.

According to him, the handling action of forest and land fire by various parties have so far succeeded. Hotspots have reduced, while smog no longer appeared in the past week as indicators of results.

"Operational of Syamsudin Noor Airport is no longer distracted by haze, including reduction in hotspots that were previously spread, especially in the area of ​​peat land," he said.

He asked all heads of regions in South Kalimantan to realize the drainage management, especially in the districts and cities whose relatively abundant peatlands.
