Al-Islam Islamic Boarding School for Agricultural Technology in Kambitin Raya Village, Tanjung Sub-district, Tabalong District, using zero waste concept, has changed waste produced by goats into useful and economic value.

University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) in collaboration with Adaro through the Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program has provided training for santri (students of boarding school) to make Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) made from fermented goat urine and vegetable plants.

Untung Santoso, S.Si., M.S, ULM livestock lecturer, said that the training to teach santri how to process waste in order to maintain the health of cage environment as well as to make it useful and has economic value that it can be sold as organic fertilizer.

“Making the liquid fertilizer is relatively easy because we use only natural ingredients, such as galangal, ginger, temu ireng, betel leaf, brotowali stem, turmeric, garlic, and tobacco,” he expounded.

The processing is very easy. When the ingredients are available, then cut them into pieces, and pound them until smooth, then boil them with 25 liters of water until boiling and then cool it.

While waiting it to cool, prepare 120 liters of goat urine and put it in the fermentation tank, mix with soybean soaking water and add with the cold ingredients.

Stir them all until well blended and tightly cover the fermentation tank for three weeks.

After three weeks, the process of making liquid organic fertilizer is finished and the last step is to pack the POC into bottles to be stored and used when needed.

Head of Business Unit of the Al-Islam Islamic Boarding School for Agricultural Technology Ustadz Hakim said that this training ws very beneficial for the goat farming business.

According to him, in addition, to gaining knowledge, the santri learned about cleaning up the environment of the goat cage which of course has an impact on the health of the goats.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) the training can open our mind in the use of manure, so we are excited to improve the quality of cage and cleanliness,” he said.
