Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Task Force II Water Police Unit (Satpolair) of Banjarmasin City Police continues to carry out patrols to anticipate crime in the waters of Martapura River and Barito River.


"These patrols continue to do because it is our duty and our responsibility to safeguard the security and comfort of the community," said chief of Banjarmasin water police unit AKP Untung Widodo here on Saturday.

He said this activity is done every day from morning, noon, afternoon until night. This is a form of performance of the police in maintaining and creating a conducive situation in the waters.

With frequent police patrols in the waters, then there is no chance for the perpetrators of crimes such as piracy, and theft or a squirrel jump on board to carry out their actions.

"In addition to patrols, we also went to the population as well as ships crew who mooring to provide education and socialization in order to quickly respond to report to the headquarters if any incident or crime happens," said the man who is familiar with the media crew.

Untung said, Banjarmasin water police also conduct examination of kelotok (traditional motor boat) that crossed the Martapura and Barito River to anticipate crime on the surface of river.

"If there is any suspected kelotok immediately chased and stopped," he said explaining that usually kelotok suspected based on public reports which directly followed up in the field.

Even kelotoks passing before midnight also checked, both inside  and examination of the driver. "Who knows in kelotok are prohibited objects or materials that are used to catch fish in a way that is prohibited or so-called illegal fishing," he said.
