Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The waters around the Kunyit Island, Pulaulaut Tanjung Selayar in Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, became migration path or displacement of whale shark.


Identification and mapping team of Kunyit Island potential in the sub-district of Pulaulaut Tanjung Selayar Baharuddin here on Thursday (20/8) said, according to the recognition of a number of fishermen they often encountered whale sharks migrate around the island.

"Whale sharks are often encountered when fishermen catch fish in certain times," he said.

According to Bahrudin, condition of the waters around the island is still relatively good, so the whale shark or even a scarce fish still found in these waters, such as turtles.

Besides waters are still good, the condition of coral reefs in the waters around the Kunyit Island is also still relatively preserved, untouched by the hands of ignorant, so as not to lose the beauty of coral reefs in a number of islands in Indonesia.

"In addition to being a place favored by marine life and scarce animals, the waters around the island is also a very good place for cultivation of seaweed or fishery," said Bahar.

Equally important, Kunyit Island has potential for marine tourism is not shared by other regions, because it is still awake from the hands of ignorant action.

"It just needs to be supported by the provision of adequate infrastructure, especially roads for access to the location, and other means of support," he said.

In addition to the provision of infrastructure, central or local government also need to create rules to protect against water and nature on the island stay awake and not exploited or destroyed.
