Zainal Fuad, a young man from North Hulu Sungai (HSU) District, South Kalimantan, was selected as the first winner in the 2021 National Ecotourism Ambassador Selection.
Fuad won the first place in the field of religion, social, and culture in the 2021 National Youth Pioneer Contest held by the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the TVRI building, Jakarta. Tuesday (Oct 26, 2021).
"My feeling is very happy. After the very tight competition in the National Youth Pioneer which was participated by 34 provinces in Indonesia, unexpectedly I was able to bring the good name of HSU and South Kalimantan," said Fuad in Amuntai, Thursday (Oct 28, 2021).
Fuad presented the typical sasirangan cloth in front of the jury and won with a final score of 8.20.
The jury's response was very positive, he said because it was very rare for young people to be involved in sasirangan cloth craft. This is part of preserving the almost lost culture because it is very rare in HSU that sasirangan craftsmen use natural dyes.
Preserving the sasirangan for him has positive impacts, one of which is recruiting workers, then increasing the standard of living of craftsmen.
"The sasirangan fabric that we have produced since 2019 has penetrated the national market, and has even exported to foreign countries," said Fuad.

He said he would continue to innovate sasirangan products as a complement or design motif for various products so that this Banjar, South Kalimantan, the traditional fabric remains sustainable.
Fuad realized that his achievements since he won the National Ecotourism Ambassador in Bali 2020 until at the National Youth Pioneer this year cannot be separated from the prayer and support of all parties.
