State-owned Islamic bank PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk (BSI) launched its first digital branch at The Tower Building in Jakarta on Monday.

BSI has taken the initiative to develop modern and digital banking for supporting one-stop financial banking, BSI President Director Hery Gunardi noted in a written statement released on Monday.

Gunardi believes that consequently, customers will find it very convenient and secure while making transactions.

“Through the operations of the digital branch, we are looking forward to providing services and added value that is far better to customers,” he affirmed.

The digital branch at The Tower is strategically located to reach customers in business areas in Jakarta, including Semanggi and the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), he remarked.

Through the customer-centric services, they can visit the digital branch without having to approach customer service (CS). Akin to services at the conventional branch, the BSI CS will proactively meet customers, he remarked.

"Customer-centric services are also available in the form of self-service machines, automated teller machines (ATMs), and cash recycle machines (CRM). In addition, the process of filling the customer form is far simpler by inputting data in the available devices," he noted.

Looking ahead, BSI is in the process of preparing offices to serve priority customers. The offices are one of the targets that BSI aims to achieve in addition to retail and corporation. The move is part of BSI’s commitment to going beyond banking and offering ultimate services.

BSI was formed from a merger of three state-owned banks’ sharia subsidiaries: Bank Syariah Mandiri (BSM), BNI Syariah, and public-listed BRI Syariah.

The government expects the bank to serve some 15 million customers, as it seeks to develop the country into a sharia finance hub.
