Four Balangan students received scholarships to study in the Middle East. The scholarship was symbolically handed over by Regent Abdul Hadi and Chairman of Balangan Ulema Council (MUI) Muhammad Yusuf.
"After these four students leave for the Middle East, the plan is there will be (four) more students, bringing the total to eight," said the Regent in Paringin, Wednesday.
Each student received IDR60 million to study in Yemen and Egypt until completion.
"This assistance is a collaboration with Balangan MUI. We the local government really support scholarship to make it easier for our children to study abroad," he said.
He hopes that this scholarship can ease the burden on the family, especially the students' parents. It is expected that after their return to Balangan, they will share the religious knowledge they have gained there.
Meanwhile, Regent Abdul Hadi revealed that he would continue other programs, including providing incentives to TPA teachers, tahfidz (Quran memorizing) houses, and mobile preachers, which are currently still under verification by the District Government of Balangan.
Syaifullah, one of the parents of the scholarship recipients, said he was happy with the assistance provided by the Balangan government.
"We from the family are very grateful to the local government and MUI, for helping our children to study abroad," he said.
Syaifullah hopes that this program will continue every year, so it provides great benefits to Balangan children who want to continue their education abroad.
