Martapura, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Thousands of homes scattered in several sub-districts in Banjar, submerged due to the overflow of the river water which is not able to accommodate rainfall.


Head of the Banjar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Noor Sunarto in Martapura on Friday said the number of houses submerged as much as 2,253.

"The number of homes inundated 2,253 with the number of inhabitants 6,452 people spread over 14 villages in six sub-districts," he said.

Height of water that inundated thousands of houses varies from five centimeters to half a meter and one meter.

The worst condition is currently happening in the sub-district of Martapura Kota, especially in the village of Tunggul Irang and Kampung Jawa, with hundreds of homes were flooded.

"Help is prepared and immediately distributed to the flood victims. If assistance is yet to come we hope residents wait," said Noor Sunarto.

Meanwhile, the villagers of Tunggul Irang still waiting for help from BPBDs Banjar, because since the floods came early January until now there has been no help received.

"We are still waiting for help, especially ointments or medications to prevent skin diseases due to frequent exposure to water," said Ahmad, a resident of the Tunggul Irang.

He added, victims also waiting for food aid because since the flooding they can not do activities as usual.
