Indonesian Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has visited Japan to hold meetings with some Japanese automakers and officials of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and visit Japan's Prime Minister Office.
"We will work all out to attract investment. The visit this time is specially to guard the new investment commitment in the automotive and petrochemical sectors," Kartasasmita noted in a statement here on Wednesday.
The minister will also assess the follow up of the Indonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) and the Manufacturing Industry Development Center (New MIDEC).
Kartasasmita affirmed that the ministry will continue to encourage the realization of investment in the manufacturing sector.
During the visit, the minister will additionally hold a meeting with Keidanren (Japan Business Federation), having 100 member companies in Japan, and the Japan Indonesia Association (Japinda) that vigorously promotes relations between Indonesia and Japan.
The minister has invited Japanese investors to develop electrified vehicles (EVs).
Furthermore, he will furnish further details of the implementation of Indonesia's job creation law to industry operators and officials of METI.
Kartasasmita will be the first minister to have paid a visit to the country since it announced a state of emergency in April 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister believes it demonstrated that Indonesia was viewed as a key partner for Japan.
