While President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged governor as well as all district heads and mayors in the South Kalimantan to make interventional efforts to prevent the recurrence of flooding, Acting Governor Dr. Safrizal asked the President's willingness to help the development of the other three dams.

Safrizal, who was speaking in his remarks at the inauguration of Tapin Dam by the President at the Pipitak Jaya village in Tapin, said the three dams are Pancur Hanau in Central Hulu Sungai (HST), Riam Kiwa in Banjar, and Kusan in Tanah Bumbu.

He also asked the central government to support the construction of swamp irrigation, Martapura River normalization, including the rehabilitation of the Barito watershed (DAS).
 
"The aim is to deter future flooding disaster. In addition, a disaster early warning system is also necessary," he said.

On behalf of the people of South Kalimantan, he expressed his gratitude for the attention the central government has given.

"The President continues to provide support in accelerating development, especially his tremendous attention in the handling of flood in South Kalimantan," said Safrizal.

In his visit, Jokowi also sowed fish seeds in the reservoir area which has an inundation area of 425 hectares and a capacity of up to 55.77 million cubic meters.

The dam is projected to irrigate 5,472 hectares of farmland and to function as flood control as well as become a tourist attraction for the public.

"This multipurpose dam has the potential of raw water, source of electrical energy, flood control, and support sustainable agriculture production," said Safrizal
