South Kalimantan's Forum for Environment (Walhi) Executive Director Kisworo Dwi Cahyono said the main cause of major floods was not only the high rainfalls in the mountainous areas and illegal logging but also the reduced land cover.

Although in HST there is neither coal mining nor oil palm plantation, he described that the environmental damage at point A does not necessarily causes a disaster at point A, but it can have an impact on a still safe point.

"It is important to make sure that global warming or climate emergency has hit South Kalimantan. Thus the impact was not only to the environmentally damage areas, but also in areas that are still safe," he said.

Kisworo was speaking when handed over humanitarian assistance for flood victims at the main post of Murakata Stadium, Barabai, Saturday (Jan 30,2021).

Thus, he said, the environmental impact is global in nature, not only our areas but the whole world could be affected.
