Flood disaster that hit Balangan had also an impact on educational facilities. At least 73 schools in several sub-districts were swamped by the floods.

“Schools affected by floods consisted of 20 PAUD (early childhood education), 52 SD (elementary school), and 1 SLTP (junior high school),” said Acting Head of Balangan Education Agency Abdul Basyid in Paringin Tuesday (Jan 19, 2021).

From those education facilities, at least 320 teachers and 1,137 students were also affected.

“Alhamdullilah, although quite a lot have been affected by this natural disaster until now we have not received any reports of physical damage to schools,” he said.

However, the agency keeps monitoring and asked the schools to stay coordinating regarding school conditions and the teaching and learning process which took place online without face-to-face.

“We also ask educators who are affected by floods to remain enthusiastic about carrying out the teaching process in accordance with policies, namely online and hopefully floods disaster and COVID-19 outbreak will end soon,” he said.
