Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina responding the government imposing restrictions on community activities (PPKM), but saying it is not like in Java and Bali.

According to him, it was the instruction of the President that regions outside Java and Bali are asked to reactivate the COVID-19 command posts, but are not obliged to implement large-scale social restriction (PSBB).

The City Government of Banjarmasin, he said, together with COVID-19 Task Force followed up the order and collaborated so there is no wider spread of COVID-19.

"So our choice is to implement PPKM by imposing small scale social restriction (PSBK) as we did before, namely the scale of sub-district, urban village, till housing complex," he said, Friday.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated on Wednesday that the government decided to impose restrictions on the movement of people on January 11-25, especially in Java and Bali, to counter an exponential rise in the number of new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection.

Daily operations will be held to monitor the implementation of health protocols at public places by involving personnel of the civil service police unit (Satpol PP), police officers, and TNI personnel.

COVID-19 positive cases in Banjarmasin are the highest among districts and cities in South Kalimantan, even on Wednesday (Jan 6, 2021) there was an addition of 26 cases, bringing the total to 4,114 cases. While recovery was recorded for 3,739 people, 179 people died.

There is an urban village in the red zone, namely Pekauman, while 16 urban villages in the yellow zone, the remaining 35 in the green zone.
