Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Natural Resources Conservation Agency or BKSDA of South Kalimantan supports the plan to convert the Meratus Mountains area as a national park.

Acting Head of South Kalimantan BKSDA, Lukito Andy, in a public dialogue held by Green Pen Community Journalists Indonesia (Kojhi) South Kalimantan here on Wednesday said the commitment is to maintain the rich biodiversity of Meratus.

According to him, the presence of Meratus mountains with a diversity of flora and fauna is a high need to be preserved. "We seriously make Meratus as a national park," said Lukito.

Andy said, in 2000 a study was done by BKSDA related to this issue and it is waiting on the Governor to fight for this area to become a national park.

BKSDA have proposed an area of 46,270 hectares of a Meratus mountains as national park to the central government. If this discourse is realized, the HST community or province not to worry about losing access or authority, as the management of the park entirely by the central government.

As example the region of Mount Bromo, until recently, local governments still play a role in terms of maintenance.

He hoped that the possibility of a tug of authority does not become a serious problem. "We will continue to monitor," he said.

Meanwhile, the Economy and Development Assistant of HST District Government, Hasby, also said it is committed to maintain Meratus region of adverse actions. HST to date still does not give permission on mining exploitation for the sake of preserving the area.

This policy is not even considered as something that is detrimental to regional income. "The proof of our budget reached Rp1.2 trillion, larger than the area (in banua anam, red) who has existing mining operations," he said.
