Tanjung, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - PT Tanjung Power Indonesia prepares Environment Impact Assessment or Amdal documents to start the construction of a steam-fueled power plant (PLTU) in Tabalong, South Kalimantan.


Director of PT Tanjung Power Indonesia, Richard W Tampi, in  the technical meeting for Amdal preparation in Bappedalda on Wednesday, explaining the power plant with a capacity of 2x100 MW will be located in the Village Mabuun, Subdistrict Murung Pudak, with a total area of ??about 42 hectares.

"The power plant is expected to help the government to increase electrical energy supply, especially for the region of South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan. Before entering the construction activities, we have to complete the preparation of Amdal documents," explains Richard.

To Antaranews, Richard mentions the power plant target to be initiated operational from 2018 and the electricity generated entirely for the purposes of PT PLN.

Technical meeting led by the Head of Tabalong Environmental Impact Management Agency, Johan Noor Effendi, attended by a number of members of the technical team of the relevant agencies such as Bappeda, Plantation Agency, the Mines Agency, Health Agency and Law Department of Tabalong Regional Secretariat.

"We have held a public consultation related to the environmental impact study with the plant to invite the public and NGOs. This time the preparation of EIA technical team also provided input for the perfection of the document," said Johan.

One member of the technical team from Bappeda, Jelita Azka Madina, said power plant location is quite close to the river and the residential requires the company to prepare the land for green space and a treatment plant.

"By law the location of the industrial area at least 2 kilometers from the residential and 15 to 20 kilometers from the city center. As the location of plant to have pretty close to the settlement, company should prepare a consequence of green open space and a sewage treatment plant," said Jelita.

Representative of EIA Consultant, PT Aecom Indonesia, Hadi Novianto Suwito said it will follow up the various inputs from the relevant technical team members in the fields of environmental, socio-economic and other technical considerations.
