North Hulu Sungai (HSU) Regency is hosting the Peatland-care Village Expo starting today November 25 to December 14, 2020, with a location in Banjang Sub-district.

Rahim Bumi Foundation Manager Farid Wajidi in Amuntai on Tuesday (Nov 24, 2020) said the expo will show the potential of peatlands of South Kalimantan.

"This is a series of programs to strengthen the capacity of craftsmen in villages whose area is peatland," he said.

According to him, the expo was held with the support of the United Nation Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in partnership with the Indonesian Peat Restoration Agency (BRG), local government, and the HSU chapter of the National Handicraft Council (Dekranasda).

Expo features natural fabric batik, purun, and water hyacinth handicrafts, and food processed products. 

"Also enlivened with sasirangan with natural dye fashion show, various competitions, as well as building capacity for craftsmen through craftsmen forum and partnership forum with BUMN and BUMD, and education on making handicraft products," said Farid.

The exibition, which is planned to be opened by the Acting Governor of South Kalimantan, will be held at Kalakai House, Matang Sirang, Banjang Sub-district, which will become an agro-tourism and education area as well as a seed bank for plants and animals endemic to peatland.
