Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Swamp buffaloes are now losing their wallowing place because the lake they commonly used dried up due to drought hits South Kalimantan.

As a result, the buffaloes forced to "take over" the river commonly utilized by public.

Meanwhile, people in the village of Sapala were forced to switch to using well water for bath and other purposes, as the river in their village in turbid condition used by water buffalo.

Utuh Hamsi, a resident of Sapala village, said people usually bathing in the river while well water is only used for drinking consumption.

Buffalo livestock is typical of South Kalimantan which is the existence of reserved plasma nuftah. It is most types of livestok animals in Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU), especially in Subdistrict of Paminggir.

Drought that hit Paminggir, which territory surrounded by expanse swamp, resulting of buffaloes wallowing switch to the river flow.

"Now people use well water to bath using water pump engine," Hamsi said.

Sapala Village Head Isnaini said the same problem also experienced by residents of other villages in the Paminggir subdistrict such Sapala Village, Paminggir and Paminggir Seberang. Every few kilometers
watershed found that buffaloes wallow.

Sapala village along with the other villages in the subdistrict are remote areas where clean water service taps of the Amuntai not reach this area.
