Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Fisheries and Marine Agency of Kotabaru District in South Kalimantan is targeting fishery production to 13,201 tons in 2014.

Regent Kotabaru H Irhami Ridjani Monday detailing, tiger shrimp production target of 3,029 tons, 5,716 tons of milkfish, 4,005 seaweed, grouper 45 tons, 162 tons of tilapia, gold fish 114 tons, and others 130 tons.

"With a large number of fishermen and quite broad waters, and fish production is high enough, Kotabaru has great opportunity to be the center of fishing and marine industry," said Regent at the Launching of Fishermen Life Improvement Program (PKN) in Kotabaru.

Kotabaru, he said, is also trusted to be the host of the Archipelago Day celebration to be held on December 13, 2014.

Various efforts to increase the potential of marine fisheries will continue to be made, including the launching of the program to improve the lives of fishermen by the Minister of Marine and Fisheries who
represented by Director General of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sjarief Widjaja.

The program is expected to encourage the independence, productivity and increase fishermen's income, so the more prosperous fisherman can be realized.

DG Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sjarief Widjaja said the local government should create regional regulations governing the zoning of coastal areas, according to the Law of Indonesia No.27 of 2007 on
Management of Coastal and Small Islands.

"One of the purposes of these rules in order to map the coastal areas of local government, which includes the area of ​​fishing, farming areas, tourist areas, fishery production areas," he said.

Thus, it will enhance investors to invest in Kotabaru. With its territory divided waters, investors feel more confident and not worry to be disturb by other business efforts.

When Kotabaru able to immediately issue that regulation, it will be included by Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries as one of  the beneficiaries of President and Vice President Jokowi-JK program, the 1,000 villages of fishermen and building of 100 fishing manufacturers centers.
