Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Of the 3,050 haj pilgrims from Banjarmasin Embarkation for the 2014 BC or 1435 Hijri departure, 57 percent classified as high risk.


"Report of the Health Agency, 57 percent of our pilgrim in high-risk, they should have extra scrutiny," said Head of the South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious M Thambrin in Banjarbaru on Wednesday.

There are three categories of high risk suffered by 1,700 haj pilgrims, namely hypertension or high blood pressure, the elderly and people with blood sugar disease or diabetes mellitus (DM).

He urged pilgrims who suffer from hypertension take medication as directed by doctor regularly and elderly to have more rest so that their physical remains strong.

"For diabetics pilgrim we ask to manage your diet and take medication, so your health is maintained until the eve of departure," he urged.

High risk category pilgrim got special treatment compared to healthy pilgrims, because they suffer from a life-threatening disease. They were given a special mark in the form of a bracelet that is attached to the wrist so it can be monitored by any health worker groups.

"Each hajj fleet has medical team consisting of one doctor and two nurses, so that at any time they can monitor the condition of the pilgrims," he said.

In addition, he urged pilgrims to be alert to extreme temperatures that hit Saudi Arabia, so it is not struck down by the heat.

"Saudi Arabia was hit by extreme weather with summer temperatures reaching 40-47 degrees Celsius during the day, we ask haj pilgrims not exposed to direct sunlight," he explained.

Departure for Banjarmasin Embarkation pilgrim is divided into nine fleet during 18 to 28 September 2014 and the first flight group is scheduled to return to homeland on October 27, 2014.
