South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor, accompanied by a number of Martapura and Banjarbaru ulema, laid the first stone and qiblat direction of Bambu Mosque of KH Abdul Qodir Hasan in the Kiram Village, Karang Intan Sub-district, Banjar, Friday.
The governor said that the Bambu Mosque at the tourist location is expected to become a center for Islamic dakwah as well as a religious tourism site.
The mosque, which is built with two floors with a budget of Rp11,9 billion, will use an architect like Banjarmasin Jami Mosque, the oldest mosque in South Kalimantan.
Governor began laying the first stone of the mosque construction followed by KH Wildan Salman, other ulemas, and South Kalimantan DPRD Speaker Sufian HK.
"I am grateful that the construction of the mosque is started. I advise the mosque to be used as well as possible as a facility for congregational prayer (shalat berjamaah) as well as a place to study," he said.
“This mosque is also a complement to tourist attraction so that visitors can stop by to pray here,” said Uncle Birin (governor's nickname).
KH Wildan Salman prayed that the construction of the mosque will run smoothly without obstacles. He also hoped the mosque can form pious people.
“Hopefully with the presence of a mosque here, it can form pious human beings,” said Guru Wildan.
Head of the provincial Public Works Agency Roy Rizali Anwar said the mosque is built on an area of 7.900 square meters. "The land belongs to the South Kalimantan Provincial government and will be granted to the local community,” said Roy.
