The University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) through its Task Force for COVID-19 Handling has exerted its full strength in helping patient care in hospitals in South Kalimantan.
"The Faculty of Medicine mobilizes specialist doctors from six study programs to work in a number of COVID-19 referral hospitals," said Chairman of the Task Force dr. H. Iwan Aflanie here, Friday (May 29, 2020).
The task force was formed on the order of ULM Rector Prof Dr H Sutarto Hadi as the manisfestation of the university's real contribution in the handling of COVID-19 in South Kalimantan.
Iwan said almost all doctors in ULM were mobilized in handling COVID-19, except for young doctors who were considered inexperienced.
"Hospitals are now dominated by COVID-19 cases, while there are very few general patients. Young doctors are not really needed right now," he said.

Not only mobilizing medical personnel, ULM also produces hundreds of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the form of faceshield to be distributed to a number of referral hospital for free.
The PPE was the work of students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program of the ULM's Faculty of Engineering which was designed to meet the medical standard and easy use.
The Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine acknowledged that COVID-19 for people with good immunity did not seem too violent and dengerous. But it is fatal if exposed to people with congenital diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma.
"Because it will damage the body so quickly that it can be fatal and generally death," explained the forensic and medicolegal expert.
Based on data from the South Kalimantan Task Force for Acceleration Handling of COVID-19 as of May 28, 2020, there were 819 positive confirmed cases, 666 patients in the treatment, 81 people recovered, and 72 died.
