Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - South Kalimantan government anticipate forest and land fires that may occur during the dry season in next few months.

Mangala Agni Head of Regional Operations (DAOP) I Banjar District, Zulkarnain said on Monday, South Kalimantan is one area that is predicted to land and forest fires due to the influence of extreme dry weather (elnino).

To deal with it, now it continues to make preparations for anticipation or prevention outreach to the community. It also conducts forest fire management training.

"On Thursday (24/4) we will be doing simulation of forest and land fire suppression in Forest Park (Tahura) Sultan Adam," he said.

Previously, based on predictions of the Meteorology , Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), land and forest fires could potentially occur in eight provinces covering North Sumatra, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.

According to Zulkarnaen, simulation activities is part of the increase in Mangala Agni personnel readiness.

Special in South Kalimantan, prone to forest and land fires areas, among others are Adam Sultan Tahura forest, forest in the foothills of Meratus result of agricultural land clearing activities, as well as the areas surrounding Gambut, just near Syamsuddin Noor Airport .
