Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Forum Komunitas Hijau (Green Community Forums-FKH ) expects Balangan District, South Kalimantan, to became aloes forests area. The tree species found pretty much here.

"We have seen a lot of agarwood trees grow in the Balangan forest referred to by locals as the wood "Ayuput" and it should be preserved if need to be bred," said Vice Chairman of FKH Banjarmasin Mohammad Ary here on Friday.

Mohamad Ary with five FKH members last week explored Balangan forest in the village of Panggung, South Paringin Subdistrict. They found the aloe plant which grow in the woods and found two big trees as natural forest heritage.

According to him , the local government should encourage citizens to maintain aloes wood because of it high economic value. Currently, aloes widely cultivated, in Sumatra, Java, and Bali.

In fact , he said , gaharu seedlings purchased from outside the local area for a nursery in Jalan Trikora Banjarbaru, taken from Balangan area.

He explained, planted aloes wood will gain large enough , because it contains the sap wood of aloes as exports merchandise.

He said about practical ways to cultivate agarwood trees. After agarwood trees six to eight years old, the tree injected until finally produce agarwood pretty much in the tree.

In Balangan , he said, there have been aloes cultivators in Batumandi.
