The City Government of Banjarmasin extends the closure of schools until April 14 as stipulated in a circular signed by Mayor H Ibnu Sina, published on Monday (March 30, 2020).


Learning from home period, which originally set from March 17 to 31 was extended for another 14 days, from April 1 to 14, 2020.

Head of Education Agency Totok Agus Daryanto in Banjarmasin explained, the extension of schools closure from early childhood earning center/kindergarten (PAUD/TK), elementary (SD) to junior (SMP) level was in accordance with the decision of the Banjarmasin COVID-19 Handling and Prevention Task Force.

"Seeing the current condition as we apply COVID-19 emergency response it is not possible for students to be temporarily admitted to the school," he pointed out.

The circular also mentions for teachers, headmasters, and education personnel to work from home.

He said, the circular also mentions, the assignment of learning from home is not merely academic, but can be life skill, such as education on how to prevent COVID-19 transmission.

"It can vary among students, according to the interest and conditions of each student," Totok explained.

He hoped, parents to also play their part to educate children to live a healthy life to protect from COVID-19, such as diligently washing hands, eating healthy food, exercising and not to wander out the house.
