BMKG Warns Flood and Landslide

Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Meteorology Geophysical Climatology Station (BMKG) Class I Banjarbaru warns those in floods and landslides prone areas in South Kalimantan wary of high rainfall during this peaks rainy season.

"At this time to early February is the peak of the rainy season, so the flood and landslide prone areas should be more cautious," said Head of BMKG Class I Banjarbaru Purwanto on Sunday.

He said, rainfall in South Kalimantan currently above normal reaches 100 millimeters even the intensity of rain in some areas in extreme category. For example, heavy rain with extreme intensity hit Banjarbaru on Thursday (9/1) reached 213.9 millimeters and was the highest record rainfall in South Kalimantan for the last five years.

According to him, the intensity of extreme heavy rainfall can down evenly across South Kalimantan that community and stakeholders' vigilance is needed in order to avoid any casualties as a result of the impact of natural phenomena.

"The heavy rain can happen at any time, morning, noon to night, so that the whole party should be more vigilant especially floods and landslides prone areas due to water can cause a disaster, "he said.

He said, the natural phenomenon can also trigger a high sea wave plus strong wind, so that communities whose life activities in the sea, likes fishermen, asked to be alert.
