Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (Antaranews) - Banjarmasin Seaport area Sector Police (KPL) foiled pangolin smuggling attempts, but when secured the animals found dead.

Banjarmasin KPL Police Chief, Commissioner Fachrul Sebastian Sik here Sunday said, police received information about the animal smuggling on Friday. Soon they investigated it. 

Officers in the field see and suspicious of some duct tape wrapped box in the truck parking lot of Trisakti Harbour.
Officers immediately conduct inspections and found 12 bales of Pangolin dead animals and frozen in ice in the box.

Police immediately secured the evidence. While the truck driver secured for bringing endangered animal carcasses 
suspected to be traded. The driver called SP (40), a resident of South Kuin Road, North Banjarmasin, his the 
status is still under evaluation.

"We're doing a deepening of the case, and now we're looking for a business owner who is smuggling the dead animals out of South Kalimantan," he told Antaranews.

He said, KPL will continue to conduct surveillance at the Port of Banjarmasin. Whatever type of criminal offenses in the area will be dealt with firmly and no selective logging, said Fachrul.
