Residents of North Hulu Sungai (HSU) performed solar eclipse prayer at the Taqwa Grand Mosque Amuntai, as the rare astronomic phenomenon occured, Thursday (Dec 26, 2019).
People in the district could witness in Amuntai and its surrounding as the rare happenings occured. They held the congrational prayer led by preacher Ustadz H Sajaruddin and MUI Chairman KH Said Masrawan as the sermon.
This is a "rare ring of fire" solar eclipse. The astronomic phenomenon this year was reported to be seen from Middle East to cross south India and Southeast Asia before it ending in North Pacific.
Chairman of HSU MUI (the Indonesian Ulema Council) KH Said Masrawan in his sermon reminded that the solar eclipse showed us the mighty power of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala.
"We should be grateful that we perform solar eclipse prayer, because what is occuring shows that Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala who govern the universe as sustenance for His creatures," he said.
Said stated, the solar eclipse happened as if Allah showed the power and proof of His existance to human and other creatures.
"In this glorious place and glorified by God, with heart full of sincerity, with soul full of hope, we glorify the greatness of Allah for witnessing one of the signs of His power and majesty that is the occurance of solar eclipse," said chairman of MUI.
He hoped the amazing natural phenomenon will strengthen faith (iman) and devotion (taqwa), as well as silaturrahim (good relation) and ukhuwah (brotherhood) among Muslims through eclipse prayer in congregation.
When the eclipse happened, Amuntai was covered with darkness just like it was maghrib (sunset), while the time was 12.30 WITA (Central Indonesia Time).
Some people tried to be brave to eye the quite rare event. Including Kominfo TV cameraman who took part in perpetuating the eclipse to be broadcasted to the public.
