As many as six thousand midwives to succeed the program of healthy South Kalimantan by getting to the villages to improve the quality of services, especially for mothers giving birth.
Chairperson of the South Kalimantan chapter of the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Supri Suriati here on Monday remarked that her side will keep moving to encourage and support the government effort to improve human resources till remote areas.
The improvement of human resources, she pointed out, will be marked with mother and child service from the womb until the birth process.
Suriati was previously inaugurated by the South Kalimantan Governor Sahbirin Noor to head the provincial IBI for the period of 2018-2023. IBI has about six thousand members.
"Hopefully we are able to move, as the governor asked us to improve mother and child service in health," IBI Deputy Chairperson Jubaidah said.
To realize the governor's hope, she said, midwives should work hard to reduce maternal and child mortality in South Kalimantan in accordance with the theme of the inauguration "Midwives Protect Reproductive Health Rights through the Empowerment of Women in Optimizing Midwifery Services."
Meanwhile, the governor expected that all the management and members of IBI here to move together to realize the vision of Healthy South Kalimantan, especially to improve the degree of health of mother and child.
"The performance of midwives also plays role in determining the regional human resources. In this way they are expected to improve the quality of service for pregnant and childbirth women," he said.
Currently, the provincial government is seriously seeking to reduce maternal and child mortality and also the high number of stunting through various program of improving health service.
