Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, 21/7 (Antaranews) - Two diamond miners in Pumpung hamlet, Sungai Tiung Village in Cempaka subdistrict, Banjarbaru, died buried on Sunday.
"Two miners were killed are Nasrullah (35), resident of RT 11 RW 4, and Syaifullah (35) who lives in RT 21 RW 7 Cempaka village," said Head of Cempaka subdistrict Hidayaturahman when contacted in Banjarbaru on Sunday afternoon.
He said the disaster which claimed the lives of two miners in the area of semi-traditional diamond panning happened around 12:45, when groups of miners move.
According to the subdistrict head, the conditions in the area around the mouth of the pit did not look alarming when incident. The weather around was pretty hot .
However, he estimated, the soil mixed with sand around the hole into which the two victims digging were unstable, because nearly a week of rain, so that the soil contained water.
Allegedly due to the condition of the soil was unstable and quite a lot of activity of miners with both victims on it, so the panning hole was suddenly collapsed.
The colleagues were shocked and as far as possible trying to rescue them buried in soil mixed with sand. Although managed to dig a hole and found the two victims, but their lives could not be saved and they both died allegedly due to suffocation when buried in the ground. *
