East Kotawaringin Resort Police, Central Kalimantan, cracked down residents who allegedly set fire to the land, even four people have been named as suspects.
"Until now we have handled six cases of land burning. Four cases have been processed and there are suspects, while the other two cases are under investigation," said East Kotawaringin (Kotim) Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Mohammad Rommel in Sampit, Central Kalimantan, Thursday.
Six cases of land fires processed by law occurred in July to August. The incident along with the increasingly widespread land fires after entering the dry season.
The first case occurred in Handil Sohor Village on Monday (1/7). A man with the initials WN (58) was named as a suspect in a 40 x 75 meter land fire case.
The second case on Jalan MT Haryono Barat, Mentawa Baru Sub-district, on Sunday (7/7). AS was named as a suspect in the 40 x 45 meters land fire.
The third case occurred in Hanjalipan Village, Kota Besi Sub-district. In this case the police are still investigating the ignition of fire, causing about 10 hectares of land burned.
Furthermore, land fires in Natai Baru Village, Mentaya Hilir Utara on Monday (29/7) also under investigation. In that incident about 10 hectares of land burned.
The fifth case occurred on Jalan Suprapto Selatan, Mentawa Baru Hilir on Wednesday (7/31). The burned land was 35 x 50 meters with suspect YP (28), a resident of Mentawa Baru, Ketapang.
The latest case occurred on Jalan HM Hatta or South Ring on Tuesday (6/8) which 35 x 50 meters of land fire. NN was named a suspect for allegedly negligence that caused widespread land fires.
The four suspects were not arrested on the grounds that they were all cooperative and the backbone of their respective families. But the legal process is ensured to continue according to the facts on the ground.
Rommel said that his party continued to conduct socialization in the hope that the community would care so that they could help prevent and overcome forest and land fires.
