The district government owned tap water company PDAM Kotabaru together with the related government agencies (SKPD) conducted a survey of alternative raw water sources in order to overcome clean water crisis in the dry season.
"This alternative raw water source is expected to increase the critical PDAM raw water debit," said PDAM Kotabaru Public Relations Syarwani, Thursday.
The survey resulted, several points were assessed as potential, one of which was the river flow in the Sigam Village area, North Pulau Laut Sub-district.
This river actually has dried up, but there is still water flow in shallow parts. The flow is quite swift even though in the past month Kotabaru has not been rained.
"Judging from the source, it seems that it is quite sufficient to increase the existing PDAM raw water debit," he added.
The results of this survey are then coordinated with the engineering department to determine the most efficient water intake system.
The Kotabaru PDAM also needs to coordinate with the local government regarding technical financing in the field.
The raw water debit in several areas of the PDAM Kotabaru Water Treatment Plant (IPA) is currently declining due to the absence of rain for a long time.
Water supply to some customers has also been disrupted, as PDAM Kotabaru has to implement a rotating water distribution system.
From a total of 18 thousand customers, thousands of customers in the North Pulau Laut Sub-district area have been affected by the rotation.
