In the corner of Shanghai City, precisely in the Qingchun Town Fengxian District, a four-story building stands in the middle of another building. Inside, there are swallow nest processing facilities that are transformed into healthy drinks and delicious food.

Who would have thought, the product taken from the swallow's saliva came from Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Yan Ty Ty, as the name of the company that produces moon cake made from Chinese swallow nests. The company is owned by an Indonesian-Chinese couple, the wife named Lily, a Chinese citizen, is the manager of Yan Ty Ty, and her husband Rudy Foniaty is an exporter of raw swallow from Indonesia under the auspices of PT Anugerah Citra Walet Indonesia.

Of his 100 swallow houses in the interior of Kalimantan, Rudy fulfill his swallow nest needs in the Chinese market, although the numbers were still small.

"Only five percent of Chinese people know of swallow nests originating from Indonesia. This potential is enormous. We will add up to 1,000 swallow houses to meet the needs in China," Rudy said.

Yan Ty Ty received raw supplies of raw swallow's nest material from PT Anugerah Citra Walet Indonesia 027 which is headquartered in Bogor, West Java. Then the bird's nest is processed into several derivative products in the form of food, drinks and cosmetics.

With pride, President Joko Widodo helped promote Yan Ty Ty in 2018 with the Chinese translation, which made the product more widely known in China.

"This year there are 60 franchise stores that sell our products. Actually, in Indonesia Indonesian swallow nests are less well known. So, we continue to educate, especially with the support of Mr. Jokowi, it will be even more famous. Before there was a promotion from Jokowi there was no franchise," Rudy said.

Export performance

During his working visit to China, Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita took time to go to the Yan Ty Ty processing plant. The Minister of Trade appreciated the efforts established by two young people of the different country, because they were considered capable of stretching the economies of the two nations.

The export of Indonesian swallow nests in 2018 was recorded at 70 tons with a value of 140.5 million US dollars from 21 companies.

To increase the export of swiftlet nests, there are currently seven other companies in the verification process to get certification and CNCA. The presence of the Minister of Trade in China to accelerate the certification process.

The Minister of Trade invites Chinese swallow nest importers to invest in Indonesia which is the main producer of swallow's nests to be processed and re-exported to China, ASEAN countries and Australia.

"Investment in Chinese bird nests in Indonesia will provide convenience for processed food products in terms of the process and fulfillment of export requirements to China," explained the Minister of Trade.

According to the Minister of Trade, exports of swiftlet nests are a priority commodity with the potential to significantly reduce Indonesia's trade balance deficit against China. This is due to the high value of swallow nests and their derivative products.

"Imagine, if only one kilogram costs IDR 25 million, what about one ton. The value is so high," said the minister.
