Social Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita visited the Budi Luhur Social Rehabilitation Center for Mental Disabled Persons (BRSPDM) in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan.


"The purpose of our visit is to ensure that persons with mental disabilities get good service, its become their provision in the community later," he said on the sidelines of the visit on Tuesday.

He said, the results of a review of a number of BRSPDM rooms on Jalan A Yani Km 29.6, Guntung Payung, Banjarbaru City, the residents had received training.

In accordance with the provisions, every person with mental disabilities who is fostered in the hall is given mental guidance and directed according to their interests and abilities for six months.

"We witness, they receive guidance and training according to their interests and abilities, so that they can return to the community if they have finished coaching," he said.

According to Social Minister, there are some positive activities given to residents of the center even though it is very simple but can be a provision for them if they want to open a business.

"We see that the skills provided are quite good and easy to do, such as the production of salted eggs and the printing of concrete blocks that can provide them with the opportunity to open businesses in their environment," he said.

It was emphasized, BRSPDM was not a place to cure persons with mental disabilities, but as a reference or further guidance from the healing process carried out by government hospitals.

"Here is not a place of healing for persons with disabilities but guiding and training them to have skills so they can try if they are returned to the community," he said.
