A semi-traditional diamond miner in Pumpung Village, Sungai Tiung Sub-District, Cempaka District, Banjarbaru City, was killed buried in a panning hole.


Banjarbaru Police Chief Adj Sr Comr (AKBP) Kelana Jaya through the East Banjarbaru Police Chief Adj Comr (AKP) Debi Triyani Murdiyambroto here said Tuesday the 36-year-old Supian Hadi was killed.

"It happened at around 2:30 p.m. when the diamond mining group, the victim and seven of his colleagues, were active in the diamond panning hole and suddenly the upper ground collapsed," said the police chief.

When the upper ground collapsed, seven of the victims managed to escape and move away, but the victims inside were unable to climb up and were buried by landslides.

Knowing the victim was buried in the ground, his friends tried hard to provide help and their efforts succeeded in removing the victim's body and then taking him to the nearest community health center.

But unfortunately, the life of the resident of Jalan Transpol Ujung Murung RT 11 RW 03 in Sungai Tiung Sub-District could not b saved and was declared dead before arriving at the Cempaka Inpatient Community Health Center.

The panning of semi-traditional diamonds in Pumpung Village, Cempaka Subdistrict, Banjarbaru often claimed the lives of miners who were active in panning holes.
