Entering the dry season currently, the potential of forest and land fires (karhutla) is back to haunt the area in South Kalimantan. The South Kalimantan Regional Police launched the "Bekantan" application to eradicate karhutla.

The Android-based application is indeed intended for the community to quickly be able to provide information on the existence of karhutla.

"The information submitted by the community will be quickly followed up by the nearest police according to the location of the report," said the Special Criminal Investigation Director of the South Kalimantan Regional Police Sr Comr (Kombes) Rizal Irawan in Banjarmasin on Sunday.

The word "Bekantan" stands for "Fighting forest and land fires". Naming Bekantan refers to Borneo native primates with a long-nosed monkey with reddish-brown hair.

It is hoped that the police, with the application of Bekantan, will become more familiar to the people of South Kalimantan and become an attraction to download and use them in an effort to prevent and eradicate karhutla together.

"Like on Sunday, July 14, 2019, in the Bekantan application seen 32 hotspots in South Kalimantan," Rizal pointed out.

Then there is a map of the area as a user guide to various important locations, such as police stations, fire stations, and so on.

There are also important telephone numbers such as hospitals, fire brigade and SAR till all police stations.
