Fire struck the settlement on Jalan Bima RT 04 Baharu Utara Village, Pulau Laut Utara, Kotabaru Regency, Thursday. A house of a former chairman of the DPRD was also burned.
The fire, which occurred at around 14:30 p.m., allegedly originated from the kitchen of a citizen house.
"I slept then woke up and saw in the kitchen full of smoke," said the owner of the house.
He immediately took water and tried to extinguish the fire, but the fire grew bigger. When the incident happened he was only alone at home, other family members were in Banjarmasin.
He did not know exactly where the fire came from, but it was alleged that a fire was triggered by an electrical shortcut. Previously there was a power outage and a fire broke out shortly after the electricity was on.
Almost no property can be saved, except for a car and clothes attached to the body.

This fire also consumed another house which was known to belong to the former speaker of the Kotabaru DPRD, Sikun.
The fire also spread to the Garuda high school building next to the burning house, but fortunately it could be anticipated by firefighters. The fire only affects part of the roof of one of the classrooms on the second floor.
