Banjarmasin Mayor Ibnu Sina disseminates and appeals all homebound travellers (pemudik) either intercity or inter-province in KM-6 Terminal to go with no plastics waste.
Mayor, who was accompanied by environmentalist Forum Komunitas Hijau (FKH) Banjarmasin and TNI and Polri officers, gave out bakul or traditional basket made of purun woven to pemudiks.
To passengers, Mayor asked them to always protecting the environment, such as not to draw garbage carelessly, especially plastics.
Mayot also asked drivers to be careful in driving the car, because passenger safety is far more important.
Ibnu Sina is one of the mayors in Indonesia who is committed to fighting plastic waste, through various programs that have been launched since several years of leadership.
Banjarmasin Environment Agency official Wahyu Yons said the program "Mudik Without Waste Plastic" was a policy of the Mayor of Banjarmasin to reduce plastic waste.
"In this program, we distribute purun baskets, which are handicrafts that elevate local wisdom, for travelers to use as their luggage," he said.
He hopes that the program will become a virus for all people in South Kalimantan and other provinces to reduce plastic waste.
