Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A total of 1,061 athletes from 13 districts and cities in South Kalimantan competed in the 2019 Provincial Student Sports Week (Popda) held in two cities, Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru, April 1-5.
South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor when opening the event at the Hasanuddin Sports Center in Banjarmasin on Monday warned all must uphold sportsmanship and honesty.
"I remind the referee to be right and fair enough to carry out their duties fairly," said Uncle Birin, his nickname.
"I also ask all athletes not to fight after the match, all must accept the decision with fair," he said.
Ten sports are contested namely wrestling, rowing, boxing, athletics, judo, sand volleyball, karate and tekwondo with their match places in Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru.
The number of contested medals was 557, namely 156 gold, 156 silver and 245 bronze medals
Head of the South Kalimantan Youth and Sports Agency H Hermansyah added that outstanding student athletes had the opportunity to take part in the 2019 National Students Sport Games (Popnas) in Papua.
