Batulicin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, cooperates with South Korean government to boost the development of agricultural sector.


Regent Tanah Bumbu Mardani H. Maming in Batulicin on Tuesday said the transnational cooperation would be facilitated by the Indonesia-Korea Economic Development which will focus on agriculture widely.

"The cooperation will be to develop rice production, then dams to overcome flood problem that will serve as support in the agricultural productivity in the Bumi Bersujud (a nickname of Tanah Bumbu)," he said.

He said the constrains in the development of agriculture in Tanah Bumbu has been no availability of a dam yet to regulate water distribution to a variety of rice paddy farmland.

Agriculture here is more reliant on rainfall, so with the establishment of the dam will be a lot of flow through some
catchment areas that can be used as agricultural land in the hope of Tanah Bumbu could be the rice granary in national level.

According to him, judging Tanah Bumbu from its position 25 kilometers from the sea up to Meratus Mountains with details of 500 meters to the left and to the right, then with the presence of dam Tanah Bumbu is expected to produce 200 thousand hectares of productive rice fields.

Meanwhile, the Korean delegation will offer cooperation through its state-run company named Kie Water. The next technical cooperation is directly to the Government of Tanah Bumbu or through a private company in terms of dam construction, he said.
