Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Chairman of the Environment and Forestry Caucus of South Kalimantan Assembly Council (DPRD) Zulfa Asma Vikra proposes Meratus Mountains stretching from northwest to southeast as a national park.


At the caucus declaration which was also attended by Director General of Social Forestry and Environment Partnership of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Banjarmasin on Monday, he said the proposal as one of the environmental protection.

According to the young politician of the Democratic Party, as a national park Meratus can be maintained from damage, which in turn prevented from floods.

He also applied for recognition or protection of customary rights, which had long been hereditary of Meratus live in the area.

In addition, the development of the indigenous peoples, so their lives can move forward while keep caring environment, said Zulfa.

Meanwhile, South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor respond positively to the establishment of the Environment and Forestry Caucus. In his speech recited by Assistant II Provincial Secretary (Setdaprov) Mariatul Asiya, he mentioned the establishment of this caucus as a form of commitment to the environment.

"We have to preserve the environment and forests in order to avoid damage to the environment that have an impact on the extinction of fauna and flora habitat," said Sahbirin.
