Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry has voiced support for an online transportation service operator’s initiative to provide a special rest area for drivers.
"I really appreciate the rest area, it means that fellow drivers are (doing things in an) orderly (manner)," Director of Road Transportation at the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Transportation Ministry, Suharto, said here on Thursday.
He delivered the statement after inaugurating inDriver Driver’s Lounge, a special rest area for drivers, in Kemang area of South Jakarta.
With the designated rest area, it is expected that the drivers would behave in a more orderly manner and not park their vehicles on the roadside while awaiting bookings.
Suharto also urged the operators of other online transportation services to establish similar special resting areas.
"We expect that perhaps other operators will do the same thing. Not just one but in various places. Things like this must be reproduced because this supports the government('s duty to ensure) the orderliness (of) online drivers," he said.
Meanwhile, country driver operation team leader at inDriver, Dini Dwi Santria, said that the opening of the driver’s lounge is a part of the company's efforts to improve drivers' welfare and ensure they offer high quality services.
"The opening of the driver’s lounge is one of the many efforts we are making to improve our drivers' welfare by providing easy access to facilities to help them stay fit and strong as they continue to serve our (customers)," said Dini.
The inDriver Driver’s Lounge is located at Graha Kapital 2 Building, South Jakarta. The lounge, which will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time, has been equipped with various facilities.
These include free Wi-Fi, air-conditioned rest areas, prayer rooms, cell phone charging stations, toilets, free drinks, and free parking.
