Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Kotabaru Legislative Council (DPRD) urges local government to encourage and boost the quality of small and medium enterprises here as ASEAN Economic Community closely take effect.


The DPRD speaker Hj Alfisah, when accompanying Commission II of Banjar DPRD in their work visit here on Wednesday, said one and another district has not much differents in matters of regulation related to SMEs development.

"Only their level of seriousness and optimalisation to develop SME business actors differ, like in Banjar where 56,000 SMEs enlisted," said Alfisah.

Some were actually not active, even died, because of many reasons. Market mechanism, less survive, might be the causes, beside less optimum in developing SMEs.

While AEC is an agenda to integrate economy of ASEAN countries, aimed to remove, if not minimalize, tariff barriers in their cross-region economic activities, either in trade of goods, services or investments.

If their capacity and quality not boosted, local SMEs may be defeated by business players from other countries who easily enter Kotabaru when AEc take effect.
