Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, proposed Sebatung protected forest into Public Forest Park (Tahura) to the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
"Kotabaru will find the best solution for community, one of which by changing the status of Sebatung protected forest to be Tahura," said the acting regent of Kotabaru H Isra here Thursday.
The proposal based on Regent Kotabaru letter No. 522/330/DFS/2015 dated June 8, 2015, on application to change Sebatung function from protected forest into Tahura with an area of 7,144.5 hectares.
Kotabaru regency also try to find solutions to the problems of community activities at Mount Bahalang clashing with Article 12 c, Article 17, paragraph 2, letter b of Law No.18 of 2013 on the Prevention and Eradication of forest destruction.
Head of the local Forestry Agency Rurin added, to resolve the problems the district government through his agency will intensively approaching and guiding the public to preserve the forests of Mount Sebatung.
"Kotabaru government will also learn about efforts to enter the location of sporadic land clearing activities by the community into utilization zone in Tahura," he said.
Meanwhile, about 1,000 hectares of protected forest areas around Mount Sebatung sporadically encroached upon by communities for wood and agriculture or plantations.
