Pelaihari, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - As many as 14 athletes from Tanah Laut District, South Kalimantan, who will play in the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) dan National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Papua, were released by Regent HM Sukamta and Chairman of the district National Sports Committee (KONI) H Iriansyah.
"The 14 athletes consist of 8 PON athletes for motor racing 2, kempo 1, pencak silat 2, swimming 1, basketball 1, and one boxing coach," said acting Head of Youth and Sports Agency Rudi Imtihansyah, Friday (Sept 17, 2021).
For 2021 Peparnas, as many as six athletes with disabilities to play in judo 2, weight lifting 2, chess 1, athletics 2.

Rudi said that several sports are the mainstay of the district, namely motor racing, kempo, and pencak silat.
"We do not rule out other sports, this can be seen from national competition in these three sports," he said.
Rudi said that exercise is not only beneficial for health and fitness, but also for mental development and achievement.
"I hope PON or Peparnas will be able to motivate our youth and children to be fond of exercise," he said.
The departure of Tanah Laut athletes, he explained, will last until October 5, 2021, because of using the term system.
"This is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic," he said.
