"Tapin's IKTL (soil) is at 46.36 points in the alert category, IKA (water) at 57.78 points still poor, while the Air Quality Index (IKU) is high at 91.89 points," said Head of Tapin Environment Office Nurdin, Monday.
From those variables, Tapin's environment got 69.09 points in the category of “enough” according to Tapin Environment Agency's data. This figure is higher than the South Kalimantan Province of 68.63 points and lower than the national average of 70.27 points.
"Many factors that affect the water index are very lacking, namely the impact of industrial activities, agriculture, and domestic waste because we still have a habit of throwing garbage into the river," he pointed out.
While the lowest category of soil (IKTL) is said to be affected by deforestation and forest fire.

To improve the soil condition, he said, it cannot be done in a short time considering the process of reforestation and restoration efforts take a long time.
"It is difficult to increase IKTL point, within a year the increase may only be by zero points," he said.
The IKLH (Environment Quality Index) assessment for air and soil was carried out by the central government, while the water was done by the local agency in Tapin River. Samples were taken from several points between upstream to downstream.
